Saturday August 8th, UFC had it’s 73rd Fight Night wrapping up the night was the ever impressing return of Glover Teixiera who took on the hot OSP (Ovince Saint. Preux). Glover Teixiera made it perfectly clear early and often that he would not be denied showing off this grappling skills weaking OSP eventually getting the finish with a rear naked choke after softening him up.

IN other news from the event we saw a controversial finish in the co-main even between Beniel Dariush vs Michael Johnson. The old tired cliché “Don’t Leave It In The Judges Hands” prevailed its ugly head in this one with Beniel getting the nod at the end even losing most of the fight. Smilin Sam Alvey lost to Derek Brunson who seemed to be a man on a mission coming into this fight ranked #15 in  the middle weight division wasn’t going to be just another smile for Alvey instead made sure at the end his hand was raised, he was the last man smiling this time. Amanda Nunes victorious over Sara McMann ( Who looked massive ) .

Glover-TeixeiraGlover Teixiera vs Ovince Stain Preux

Winner: Glover Teixiera

After 2 though loses, contaplating retirement if that was his best against than Champ Jon Jones and Phil Davis, 11 month layoff had him re-evaluating himself. Coming in against a young hungry OSP (Ovince Stain Preux) and put a temporary stop to the OSP hype train with a rear naked choke in the 3rd round. #4 light heavyweight declared he was back. So, what is next for Glover Teixiera?

Rampage Jackson or Jimi Manuwa

With all the top contenders take these 2 men make the most sense for Glover. If Jimi gets passed Rumble Johnson this would be an interesting match up, also one that would shake up the LHW rankings. Jimi only notable lost comes against Gustafsson. A rematch from UFC on Fox 6 against Rampage Jackson who returned to the UFC at 181 by beating Fabio Malonado means Rampage wants to make a jump back in the rankings so, this would be great for both men. Jackson is a high profile name beating him could jump Glover back into the title contention mix.

verdict: Glover Teixeira vs Rampage Jackson

beneil-dariush-ufc-fight-night-73-video #12 Beniel Dariush vs #5 Michael Johnson

Winner: #12 Beniel Dariush

Beniel won via descion that was controversial to say t he least despite winning over Michael Johnson the way he did should not jump him in the top of the rankings. Beniel Dariush should face Benson Henderson after his next fight. I like this match up for a few reasons. One is Beniel needs to continue to prove his worth that he can continue beating top ranked fighters, not just be given wins that he doesn’t deserve. So, why not former World Champion Benson Henderson? This would kill two birds with one stone. Also this would help Benson Henderson if he wins is fight coming into this one.

verdict: Beniel Dariush vs Benson Henderson

DerekBrunson_Headshot#15 Derek Brunson vs Sam Alvey

Winner: #15 Derek Brunson

Sam Alvey stepped up huge in terms of class. Coming in on a  3 fight win streak all ending in the 1st round many thought this might be the time Smilin Sam was going go to make his impact however Derek Brunson had a different idea since he still has title aspirations. Brunsons came in like a man on a mission that was ready to make a statement that the middle weight division better remember the name Derek Brunson. With this dominate performance getting the TKO sends a clear message to the division extending his winning streak now to 3 and 2 via TKO means he could have his eyes set on Dan Henderson or CB Dolloway.

The match up against Dan Henderson win or lose against Vitor Belfort makes the most sense here. Dan Henderson seems to be the gate keeper of the division even though Henderson says he has one last title run left in him that is still to be determined. I like this because of the story that could be sold, Brunson just knocked off one of the Team Quest which is Dan Henderson’s gym/ crew so why not defend the lost of his fallen teammate?

Verdict: Dan Henderson vs Derek Brunson But could be Derek Brunson vs CB Dolloway

AmandaNunes_HeadshotWomen’s Bantamweight: Amanda Nunes vs Sara McMann

Winner: Amanda Nunes

The women’s bantamweight division being permanently placed in a Ronda Rousey arm bar. The division is like a momma bird feeding its’ chicks.

Everyone in the top 5 has lost to Rousey. nunes victory over a puffed up Sara McMann automatically puts her in talks to be the next onein line to face the bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey but we must be realistic here, we can not just keep feeding fighters to Rousey if she gets passed Tate for the 3rd time. The best match for Nunes at this point is against another girl who people have labeled the next one to fight Rousey that is Holly Holm. Nunes has the tools to take it to Ronda Rousey she is a black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu and a judo champion. The Bantamweight needs a shake up at the top and if it doesn’t come by the way of Rousey vs Cyborg first up needs to be Nunes vs Holm

Verdict: Amanda Nunes vs Holly Holm
