Winchester, CA – Scott Coker’s vision of Bellator’s future was shown to more than 98 million viewers last night as to what the new Bellator is going to look like. With Viacom and Spike TV supporting Coker’s new vision the company is only going to continue to grow. Coker has never worked as closely as he’s doing with Viacom and Spike TV; Coker mentioned that he has more freedom and control now than he ever did. He’s not trying to take over the MMA world, but simply trying to give the fans another very good alternative.
The new Bellator is going to feature big production and look to their tent pole events going forward; last night at Bellator 131 was the world’s first taste of the new improved Bellator. Bellator debuted large HD screens with intros and a new walk out ramp a la Glory as well as Impact wrestling look with the screens.
If you’ve been to a Strikeforce event a couple years ago, you’ll get the vibe that Bellator felt almost the exact same way; however the upside to that is that Coker’s mind and thoughts as to where he wants to go is going a mile a minute. He seems to be always thinking one step ahead as to what he plans to do next. Whether it was him taking the time before Bellator 131 to announce to the media that he’s already planned the next 3 fight cards in the New Year. He’s very strategic in his placement of his “tent pole” events as he sandwich it in between 2 regular cards. His next big fight card that is called “tent pole” event, it’s scheduled to take place Feb. 27th at the Mohegan Sun which is being billed as the British Invasion.
In the end what the fans can expect from this new regime is that they are going to do a couple of things:
- Style fights (Schilling vs Manhoef) was an example of this.
- Home grown talent (Aaron Pico, a 18 yr old wrestling phenom was signed last night and announced to the world).
- Vets and Mainstays of Bellator (Tito Ortiz, Stephan Bonnar, Will Brooks, Michael Chandler, King Mo) the list goes on.
Bellator is planning to continue to give back to the fans of MMA. You can view the break down of the fights under Bellator 131 Results.
