5.11.2018 UFC 224 set for Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, has gotten off to an interesting start before the May 12, 2018 card. It started off with a report coming out that a few UFC officials were held at gun point outside of their hotel. No one was injured, and police have been involved.
In other news surrounding UFC 224, much talked about Mackenzie Dern, who is returning to Brazil the home country of her father to compete. At weigh ins Mackenzie Dern (6-0) weighed in at 123LBS which is 7 lbs. over the strawweight limit. This marks the 3rd time in her professional career that she has missed weight.
Amanda Bobby Cooper comments on twitter about the miss weight by Dern.
Not shocked @MackenzieDern missed weight but 7.4lbs over is a disgrace to all professionals. She’s not getting out of this fight that easy. Fight is still on. ABCNation get ready. #ufc224 strawweight vs flyweight tomorrow night in Brazil

Dern’s Pro Weight Ins:
Legacy FC 58 – 116 lbs. (makes Strawweight Limit)
Legacy FC 61 – 118.8 lbs. (misses Strawweight Limit by 2.8 lbs.)
LFA 6 – 120 lbs. (misses Strawweight Limit by 4 lbs.)
LFA 24 – 124.5 lbs. (makes her Flyweight Weight debut)
Invicta FC 26 – 115.9 lbs. (makes Strawweight limit in return)
UFC 222 – 116 lbs. (makes Strawweight Limit)
UFC 224 – 123 lbs. (misses Strawweight Limit by 7 lbs.)
3 out of her 6 Pro fights she has made weight successfully at the Strawweight limit of 116. They’ve had other fighters such as; Kelvin Gastelum and John Lineker who have both missed weight 3+ times. Gastelum was forced to move up to middleweight until he got his weight under control. Lineker was bumped up to bantamweight after failing 4 times to make weight. What will happen to Dern, should she continue to be allowed to attempt to make weight at the strawweight limit?
