Brave 16 fighters weigh in on lightweight title picture
Days away from their fight, welterweight champion Carlston Harris and number one contender Jarrah Al-Selawe, who face each other in the main event of Brave 16, have been discussing one of the hot topics for Brave Combat Federation: the lightweight title picture.
While champion Ottman Azaitar waits on the wings to defend his title against a host of fighters, Harris remains puzzled as to why “The Bulldozer” has yet to put his belt on the line and hopes for a resolution on the matter.
“As a champion, I think you have to defend your title, prove that you are indeed the champion. You can’t choose opponents. I think Ottman needs to defend his title, to prove why he’s undefeated. He can’t be in the background, just talking and not defending your title. Brave has an interim champion and I think they should unify the title”, said Carlston, referring to Lucas “Mineiro” Martins.
Meanwhile, his opponent Jarrah Al-Selawe, who holds the record of most Brave victories (five), feels that fellow jordanian star Kareem-Abdul Al-Selwady should be next in line for a title shot, since the lightweight from Fortis MMA, has built up almost the same Brave record to his own, with four wins in as many bouts for the promotion.
“Both Kareem-Abdul and Ottman bring exciting action to the cage and both men have explosive strength. Al-Selwady’s wrestling is excellent and he knows how to control his opponent, he also has great ground and pound. Azaitar is a great striker, who likes to push forward and doesn’t take a step back. I think whoever implements their strategy better will emerge victorious and I would love to see that fight”, says “The Jordanian Lion”.
Brave 16 is set for the Mubdala Arena, in Abu Dhabi, next friday, as Carlston Harris and Jarrah Al-Selawe collide with Harris’ title on the line. Featherweight champion Elias Boudegzdame makes the second defense of his belt in the co-main event against top wrestler Bubba Jenkins. Also set for fight night are the returns of Brave stars Bruno Malfacine and Mohammad Fakhreddine.
